apron quilt block

Adorable Apron

This beautiful apron uses one 8 " quilt block, which makes up the bib. The finished block, including a 1" border all the way around, measures 8" x 8". You could substitute any 8" block. What a fun way to use a quilt block!

The towel offers a convenient feature for the apron, as does the pocket.

This pattern has been on our website for almost 20 years. It was one of the first patterns posted. It is a favorite among our visitors.

Apron Size

This apron pattern is approximately size 4-6: little girl.

The finished quilt block (including the border) measures 8" square. You can use any 8" quilt block.

The skirt measures 13" across the top. My skirt has a length of 13.5".

Adjust the size by changing the length or width of the skirt, and/or changing the quilt block size.

Cutting Tools

I recommend using a Rotary Cutter, Cutting Mat and Sewing Ruler. I use these tools for most projects. They allow for easy, precise cutting. Visit my Amazon store page to purchase these tools, fusible fleece, insul-bright, heat resistant cloth, quilting pins, and other items I use in my projects.

Directions

Please Note: these diagrams are not exactly to scale, but the pieces do fit as shown.

1. Cut Fabric Pieces

Cut fabric pieces directly from fabric (using a large sewing ruler and rotary cutter is easiest) OR create paper pattern pieces. I use butcher paper. I buy a large roll, then use it to create all of my patterns.

apron layout Muslin Pattern Pieces (or main apron fabric)
Skirt: Cut 1 piece 17" x 36".
Pocket: Cut 1 piece 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" (for lining of pocket)
Waist Ties: Cut 2 pieces each 3 1/2" x 23"
Neck Ties: Cut 2 pieces each 3 1/2" x 25"
Waist Band: Cut 1 piece 3 1/2" x 14 1/2"
Quilt Block Back: Cut 1 piece 9" x 9"

Now, lay-out pattern pieces as shown in the diagram. Cut out fabric pieces.
